ANCESTORS ANNOUNCE UK / EUROPEAN TOUR AND ROADBURN FEST APPEARANCE; HOMETOWN SHOW WITH SAINT VITUS
Los Angeles based progressive rock collective ANCESTORS have announced April, 2010 UK and European tour dates in support of its critically acclaimed new album Of Sound Mind. The trek will launch on April 9 in Essen, Germany and will include a high profile appearance as part of the 2010 Roadburn Festival
in Tilburg, Netherlands on April 15. Now in its eleventh year, the
Roadburn Festival has become Europe’s leading underground festival for
psychedelic, avant-garde, doom “or any other variation of leftfield
sonic pleasures that push the boundaries of music.” Roadburn 2010 will
feature ANCESTORS alongside like-minded acts such as Jesu, Shrinebuilder, The Gates of Slumber and more.
Joining ANCESTORS on both the UK / Euro tour and at Roadburn will be Los Angeles-based rock quintet NIGHT HORSE. The band shares in common with ANCESTORS
guitarist Justin Maranga and have caught the ears and eyes of critics
and fans alike with their unique ability to blend the greater aspects
of rock music with a much needed breath of contemporary fresh air. NIGHT HORSE,
who has been described as “If Sonic Youth had been immersed in an ocean
of Allman Brothers inspiration, or if Soundgarden had been steeped in
late 60s Fleetwood Mac”, will enter LA’s Infrasonic Sound with producer
Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Isis, Murder City Devils) later this month to record its sophomore LP, due for a summer release via Tee Pee Records.
On January 28, ANCESTORS will perform live at Los Angeles’ Ultra Violet Social Club as special guests of legendary doom metal band Saint Vitus. In additional ANCESTORS news, the band has recently premiered the brand new song “Antler Wings” via Decibel Magazine. ANCESTORS just-released album Of Sound Mind hit stores on
October 6 via Tee Pee and has met to shining critical acclaim in the
time since its release, being called “a triumphant prog-metal ride”
“that you should start listening now” by Stereogum, “a thicker and more
modern version of Pink Floyd” by Synthesis and “epic” by Brooklyn

Formed in 2006, ANCESTORS create mighty, modern music that
dovetails innovative arrangement, crushing primordial riff interplay
and melodic instrumental passages with textural "metalgaze"
atmospherics. Recorded, mixed and mastered at Infrasonic Sound by Pete Lyman, (The Mars Volta, Beck, No Age),
the band’s new album Of Sound Mind is an 8-part, hour-long experience
that is at once passionate, bold and challenging. Described as “A
journey through the past into the future,” the album showcases
ANCESTORS’ ever-evolving musicianship and metrics, which have drawn
comparison to Neurosis, Hawkwind, King Crimson, Om and (early) Black Sabbath.
Of Sound Mind injects an intoxicating mien into the soul of hard rock
and vintage metal and seethes with both analog warmth and astute
atmosphere. Essentially conceptual in nature, Of Sound Mind lyrically
and thematically contemplates the quandaries of human psychology and
its effect on and within the development of modern society. With both
thunderous roar and expansive communiqué, ANCESTORS are proving to be a quickly-emerging force of musical power and creativity.
